Vlogs by the Grumpy Old Dog Lady
A Vlog, or Vlogging, is very similar to Blogging, just that presented by way of a short video on a particular subject.
We are delighted to feature Vlogs by senior Behaviour Consultant (Dogs and Cats), Kathy Clayton. Kathy also runs puppy classes in Lower Sandhurst, and basic, intermediate, advanced, agility, clicker training at Forest Farm and the Torah Academy. Kathy regularly travels overseas( UK, USA, Europe, Russia) to attend dog shows, courses, judge, and to meet up with other trainers for discussions on training. Kathy is as passionate about sharing education as we are, and we are positive that you will thoroughly enjoy all the different topics - we will be posting a new Vlog about once every ten day, so do watch on our Facebook page for announcement of same.

WHEN ANOTHER DOG SCHOOL 'FAILS' YOUR DOG
The Grumpy Old Dog Lady talks about when a dog ‘fails’ at dog school and is asked to leave. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated instance, and we ourselves have had ‘failed’ pups come to us at puppy school, who either were asked to leave, or spent the whole of puppy school outside the area where the other puppies were because their pups exhibited aggression. We have also seen clients for behaviour concerns with their dogs, that have told us the same thing. It is crucial that when people take their dogs to puppy school that they ensure that the people running them are qualified. A puppy or dog such as this, is simply not coping, and need a l bit more help. The instructor should either be able to supply same, or at least put the person in touch with a behaviourist. If you do know anybody who has had this problem, suggest to them to get hold of a behaviourist, so that any inappropriate behaviour the puppy may be exhibiting, can be dealt with, and the sooner the better. |

The Big Debate - Rescue v Breeders
Friends of the dog is all about education and information. Our view is that both breeders and shelters need to be educated, coached and regulated. It is our dream that one day all of the above will be I place and that each animal would be loved and looked after. People may not always agree with one another but we can all learn from each other. As the old saying goes "the mind is like a parachute;it only works when it is open." |

WHY ARE SMALL DOGS SO HARD TO HOUSE TRAIN?
Over the years the GODL has done numerous home visits for small breed dogs that are not house trained. This is a discussion about why small breed dogs are not house trained properly and some tips to change the behaviour. |
Our dogs are confronted to a myriad of ‘human’ things in their lives. These are things that they simply don’t understand, and as a result many dogs suffer from fear in one form or another.

Some dogs cope better than other dogs when left at home alone. Here are some ideas to provide entertainment when you are not there.

Dem bones, dem bones…..there has been serious debates about the advantages and disadvantages of giving bones to dogs whether for health purposes or as therapy for the prevention or control of behaviour disorders.
