Clicker Workshops
Clicker Workshops are held for people interested in learning the technique of clicker training, and who wish to get hands on experience in a group situation. Workshops include both theoretical and practical sessions. Attendees have the choice of bringing an animal with them, the only proviso being that the animal is well socialised i.e. not likely to get stressed by being in a room with other animals and people. Non-traditional animals are welcome – we have had animals such as meerkat, parrot, chicken, rat, horse and cat participate at various workshops. This gives people an opportunity to see how successful clicker training techniques are amongst different species. Active participation is encouraged, with the emphasis being on succeeding whilst having fun.
There are three modules offered, but attendees must have completed Module 1 in order to attend Modules 2 and 3. Each workshop runs for one day, from 9 a.m. until 4.30 p.m. Cost is reasonable at under R1000 per workshop, which includes teas and lunch.
Clicker training is a win-win means of training, with the animal controlling the rate of learning.

Chicken Clicker Workshops
CHICKEN CLICKER WORKSHOPS are workshops in which only chickens are trained. These are geared towards improving handler skills. In the words of Bob Bailey “training is a mechanical skill”. In this workshop, focus is placed on improving observational skills, handling skills, hand-eye coordination and timing.
Chickens are used because they are fast - timing and observational skills have to be really good to enable the trainer to click the precise behaviour they want to reinforce. With a chicken, what you train is what you get. What you reinforce, they repeat.
The workshop is hands on, with everyone getting involved in training various behaviours. Emphasis is placed on ensuring the welfare of the chicken and on the handlers succeeding whilst having fun. These workshops are an entertaining and educational experience for chicken and handler alike!
