October is Pet Adoption Month
Life’s better shared, especially with a loving pet
Hill’s Pet Nutrition and the Cape of Good Hope (CoGH) SPCA along with celebrities including former Miss South Africa and TV personality Jo-Ann Strauss, comedian Kurt Schoonraad, radio and TV presenter Liezel van der Westhuizen, radio presenter Charmaine Noy and environmental campaigner Lewis Pugh have declared October ‘Pet Adoption Month’ to encourage more people to give a dog or cat a ‘forever home’.
Partnering with the CoGH SPCA in promoting pet adoption, Hill’s Pet Nutrition has pledged R100 for every pet adopted from the CoGH SPCA during October and will give each adopted pet a free bag of Hill’s, the food recommended by veterinarians worldwide.
Adopting from the CoGH SPCA makes good financial sense – it’s just R570 for a dog and R520 for a cat, which includes the cost of sterilisation, first vaccination, deworming, a micro-chip, an ID disc and free medical treatment, in the unlikely event that your pet falls ill in the first two weeks after being adopted. In addition, every pet is behaviourally assessed, enabling SPCA kennel staff to help match potential adopters with the perfect pet.
The SPCA has also worked hard to simplify and streamline their adoption process, by introducing online applications and fast-tracking home checks, which makes sure that the property is safe and secure.
Whether you adopt or not, you can show your support for the Hill’s SPCA “Life’s Better Shared” adoption campaign by:
- Donating R10 in the Guess the Breed SMS competition, and stand the chance to win two bags of Hill’s Science Diet! During October we will feature six mix breed dogs – and challenge you to guess which breeds they are! Sponsored by Hill’s and MuttMix these six dogs underwent MuttMix DNA tests to determine their origin breeds. To enter, donate R10 to the Cape of Good Hope SPCA by SMSing SPCACT to 48716. You will then receive a reply SMS with instructions on how to participate in the competition by sending a second SMS at a cost of R1-50 (Total SMS cost R11-50). Visit http://www.spca-ct.co.za/competition.asp for more.
- Adding your signature and message of support to the giant SPCA Hill’s “Life’s Better Shared” pet adoption campaign wall at the CoGH SPCA in Grassy Park (cnr 1st Rd and First Ave). The wall will be open for signing everyday during normal operating hours throughout October.
