Inappropriate & Appropriate  Dog Play

Dogs playing naturally can really look rough and worries many owners. What owners should do to prevent excitement levels getting too high, is before the excitement escalates, get into the habit of calling the dogs to you, ask for a Sit and offer Praise and a Treat. Tell the dogs to 'settle' offering quiet praise and treats at the same time - if necessary, gently restrain. Once the dogs are quiet again, then give the cue 'go play'. This way it becomes rewarding for the dogs to return to owner, plus prevents excitement levels getting too high.

However in this great You tube it shows you what inappropriate really looks like and I have put in a You Tube to show you what it should look like below the first YouTube)

drsophiayin.com presents a video showing inappropriate dog play. Lucy, the Australian Cattle Dog puppy, has had practice getting overly aroused while playing. Because of this, when Dozer the pug mix gets irritated with her, she quickly escalates to fighting back. For more information on dog play, visithttp://drsophiayin.com/blog/entry/bon...
