Using essential oils can be a natural and effective way to prevent flea and tick infestations on your furry friend.
By making your own flea and tick spray, collar, or shampoo using essential oils, you can avoid exposing your dog to harsh chemicals found in commercial products.

These oils are concentrated liquids that consist of certain volatile constituents that are derived from plants.
They’re known to be volatile simply because the molecules that are present in essential oils can quickly change its form from a liquid or solid state into gas or aroma form as such essential oil is normally diluted for various uses.

- In a spray bottle, combine 1 cup of distilled water and 2 cups of apple cider vinegar.
- Add 10 drops of lavender essential oil, 5 drops of peppermint essential oil, 5 drops of citronella essential oil, and 5 drops of lemongrass essential oil to the spray bottle.
- Close the bottle and shake well to mix the ingredients.
- To use the spray, shake well and spray it on your dog’s coat, avoiding the eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Reapply the spray every 2-3 days or as needed.
- Avoid spraying the solution near your dog’s eyes, nose, and mouth.
2) Essential oil flea and tick shampoo
a) List of ingredients
- 1 cup of castile soap
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 10 drops of lavender essential oil
- 5 drops of peppermint essential oil
- 5 drops of eucalyptus essential oil
- 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar
b) How to make and use:
- In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of castile soap, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 10 drops of lavender essential oil, 5 drops of peppermint essential oil, and 5 drops of eucalyptus essential oil.
- Add 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar and mix well.
- Wet your dog’s coat with warm water and apply the shampoo, massaging it into their fur and skin.
- Leave the shampoo on for 5-10 minutes to allow the essential oils and vinegar to work.
- Rinse your dog thoroughly with warm water, making sure to remove all the shampoo.
- Repeat the shampoo treatment as needed.
3) Essential Oil flea and tick Collar

- 1 cotton bandana or collar
- 2-3 drops of lavender essential oil
- 2-3 drops of citronella essential oil
- 2-3 drops of peppermint essential oil
- Take a cotton bandana or collar and fold it in half lengthwise.
- In a small bowl, mix 2-3 drops of lavender essential oil, 2-3 drops of citronella essential oil, and 2-3 drops of peppermint essential oil.
- Apply the essential oil mixture onto the bandana or collar, making sure to distribute it evenly.
- Tie the bandana or collar loosely around your dog’s neck so that it is comfortable but not too tight.
- Reapply the essential oils to the bandana or collar every 1-2 weeks or as needed.
- Don’t force the oils on your dog, let him refuse or accept it on his own accord.
- Do not use on puppies, elderly dogs, or dogs with underlying health conditions without consulting your veterinarian first.
