Action Plan For Educating The Public On Ethical Breeding Practices
To contact us with ideas and suggestions, either post on our Face Book page, below this link, or email us
This is a joint community effort from the canine world and we really need, and welcome, your participation, as well as comments, suggestions and ideas – we need to do this right!
By creating awareness and educating on a public platform we are aiming to impact the unethical and puppy farm sellers, which should result in less of them and more people adopting.
In the interim, we will be working on the articles, and will run these by you for ideas and suggestions before finalizing – once agreed upon, the education campaign gets going.
Step One -Education Potential Owners Article - summary
This is the missing link in the chain, and we believe something that should come about. We do have many ideas on this aspect, and once we get to this step, will share all with you, and look forward to your input as well.
Just as you need to have solid foundations when building a house, we feel that the same should apply here – getting each step off the ground with a solid foundation.

Step One -Education Potential Owners Article - summary
- Consequences of supporting unethical and “accidental” breeders. - (all avenues of purchase covered)
- How to identify breeders that are unethical.
- What is the difference between “registered” and “unregistered” breeders and dogs. Many potential owners believe that if a dog is “registered” with an association that the breeder is automatically top notch. We shall supply potential owners the facts on what a breeder being registered means, and what the organization does, or does not do.
- Green Flags to look for in Breeders
- Conclusion article – Encourage the notion of looking at shelters for potential pets.
- Canine community initially sharing Education Article on Facebook, Instagram and other social media they are connected too. Requesting all friends and followers to do the same, and share with their contacts.
- The same to occur with What’s App
- We will be putting together Face Book –on Education, based on article, and a friend in the media world has offered to do another as an interview. It may be an idea to have other Videos on Puppy farm horrors, such as occurred with Roodewal Kennels and the Schnauzers as an example.
- A friend of ours is in the media business and happy to do a video interview with Charmaine on this topic.
- Will contact all the dog magazines, websites in SA and ask them to feature the article.
- To request all shelters, breed rescue etc, to place on website, FB and social media and share and request shared further. NSPCA should be asked as well.
- To contact all dog related activities and businesses and ask them to feature and share.
- Contacting vets and asking them to share further, and even send in their newsletters.
- Contacting Radio stations with view of interviews.
- Face Book ads – these need to be eye catching punchy and get attention. We will put together some suggestions. The same for Instagram, but less ads, a much younger following.
- These ads will have to be paid for, and as soon as we have the article ready and approved, we will get prices, and then talk about sponsorship – we will deal with this when the time is ready and give you our ideas to date.
- We need to be clear in what good shelter looks like as well as what to be wary of. One bad experience with a shelter or a shelter pup and people will avoid ever going that route again and moreover will tell everyone that listens.
- Benefits of adopting
- Questions potential owner should be asked, and questions for potential owner to ask.
- We will tie in with shelters to get their input.
- Once all approved, we will proceed as per the majority of above ideas of spreading education.
This is the missing link in the chain, and we believe something that should come about. We do have many ideas on this aspect, and once we get to this step, will share all with you, and look forward to your input as well.
